What is an Electronics Systems Contractor (ESC) Anyway?

It seems like when people ask a basic question like "What does simpleHome do?" that it should be a pretty simple thing to answer. In a way, it is. We say, "We are ESCs - electronic system contractors." Then we usually start to notice the blank stare and the eyes begin to glaze over. We often try to help them understand better by adding, "We design, install and provide ongoing service for smart home and home entertainment systems in Greater Boston, Philadelphia and Vermont. For example, whole-house music and video systems, lighting and climate control systems, remote access to your home systems via your iPhone or iPad."
That usually helps a lot, but it's pretty long-winded to say all that stuff to answer a simple question. It would be great if the term ESC were common knowledge. We believe that day is coming soon.
