After the recent extereme weather events, you probably don't need a reminder that winter is on its way. Like death and taxes, some things can't be avoided. But don't worry - there are steps you can take right now to take make your home warmer, cozier, and healthier this winter. And save energy and money while you're at it!
Maintain heating equipment: If you haven't already done so, now is the time to schedule a check-up for your heating system to make sure it is operating at peak performance.
Change your air filters regularly: According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, indoor air is two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. This can be a big problem if you suffer from allergies. The easiet, most effective way to have cleaner indoor air is to use high-quality air filters that are well suited for your heating system. Also, check them regularly to make sure they are clean.
Use a smart thermostat: With an automated climate control system, you can ensure that your home is at the proper temperature at all times. Being green means using energy wisely. There's no need to keep an empty house toasty warm.
Seal those leaks: Sealing air leaks in your home will make it more comfortable, less drafty, and help save on your utility bills. If you are adding insulation to your home, make sure to seal those leaks with caulk, foam or weather stripping first.
Don't forget ENERGYSTAR: When replacing electronics in your home, look for the ENERGYSTAR label. It can be found on more than 60 types of products and make your home more energy efficient.
